On Friday 26 February 2027 the Dan Forshaw Quartet brings The Long Way Here to Saffron Hall, two weeks after the album’s London launch.
It is Dan Forshaw’s fifteenth album as a leader and his first album of ballads. Over lunch in 2016, Branford Marsalis told him not to record one until he was over forty. He waited ten years.
Saffron Hall is where drummer Lewis Kentaro Isaacs first played with the band, aged 15. He returns as a Royal College of Music graduate, now studying for a masters at the Royal Academy of Music. Lewis James on piano and Guy Dempsey on bass are both Academy graduates. All three are former students of Dan’s.
Ballads are the heart of the set, not the whole of it. Songs from the album, including Dan’s own Ti Amo and John Coltrane’s Central Park West, sit alongside tunes from the band’s live repertoire.
Saffron Hall is 30 minutes from the centre of Cambridge, with free parking on site
