Never Let Me Go

Dan Forshaw Quartet with Becca Wilkins. From The Long Way Here.

Fifteen records.
Clubs and cathedrals.
The long way here.

Dan Forshaw is a saxophonist and composer. He learned from Ray Wilkes, who had played in Cedar Walton's band, took his first professional gig at 14, and studied with Branford Marsalis at 24. He has made fifteen records since 2003. He plays the London clubs with his quartet and leads jazz in cathedrals, and he teaches the players who end up in his band.

The record

The Long Way Here was recorded in August 2026 with vocalist Becca Wilkins. It is released on 4shaw Music, and it exists because people backed it on Kickstarter before a note was played.

Branford Marsalis once told Dan not to record an album of ballads until he was over forty. He took the advice. The Long Way Here sets Hoagy Carmichael, Billy Strayhorn and Wayne Shorter beside Coltrane's Central Park West, and closes with Ti Amo, an original written for his wife, Lydia, and built on the Lydian mode.
