Music AI & The Intersection with Classical Music

On Thursday, 19th September 2024 I gave the keynote address at the Selmer Clarinet Conference at The Hellenic Centre in London.

My presentation, titled “Is Music AI a Versificator or the 21st Century Clarinet?” delved into the fascinating intersection of music and artificial intelligence. We explored the potential of AI to revolutionise the way musicians create, learn, and share their art—unveiling tools that can elevate our craft to new heights.

However, amidst the excitement of technological advancements, I emphasized a critical point: while AI offers incredible benefits, it cannot replicate the human soul’s connection to music. The true magic of music lies in its ability to speak directly to our hearts, something only we, as humans, can truly bring to life.

Music is more than just notes on a page; it’s an emotional journey that resonates with each listener in a unique way. As we embrace AI, let’s ensure that the human element—the passion, the spontaneity, the soul—remains at the forefront of our musical endeavors.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such an enriching discussion. Let’s continue to push boundaries while staying true to the essence of what makes music so profoundly human. 🎼✨
