Song for Helena

‘Song for Helena’ is the only piece I composed for my ‘Jazz Vespers‘ album’

There are not many tales that begin, ‘One night in a Pub in Pinner’ – but this one does.

I met Rosie and Tref Bark at an event that a fellow student John was organising in a pub when I was a student at LST. Tref became ‘hooked’ on my playing and brought a car load of people to my first ‘Jazz in the Chapel’ event at LST in May 2006.  Since then I’ve got to know Tref and Rosie well, sharing nights a Ronnie Scott’s, performing A Love Supreme at their church in Harrow and even having a birthday cake made for me during a gig in May 2012!

This video tells you the rest of the story…
